.eu - Celebrating 10 years of the European online identity
On April 7 this year, the .eu top-level domain marks ten years of successful operation. Created at the initiative of the Commission, .eu the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for the European Union (EU) opened up for full registration on April 7 2006.
Over the past decade, .eu has grown rapidly to become one of the most popular domain extensions in Europe, and in the world. Despite its relatively recent creation, .eu is now the sixth largest country code TLD (ccTLD) in the world. With almost four million registrations, the .eu TLD has become a valued option for Europeans when choosing a domain name for their Internet presence. The .eu TLD is a sound and reliable Internet extension for Europeans, contributing to the growing digital economy in Europe, and an emblem of European identity for EU citizens as well.
